Message Wrap-Up (weekend)
Yes, if you’re following along, my calendar has been too much — funeral last saturday, spoke to our high school group last Sunday, spoke at New Community Wednesday, and then three servcies this weekend. Anyway…this weekend I wrapped up a series on prayer, talking about “Unanswered Prayers.” I don’t really have much to add…but here are some resources that I either quoted directly or leaned on heavily for this talk:
- Prayer – Philip Yancey
- Reaching for the Invisible God — Philip Yancey
- Mudhouse Sabbath — Lauren Winner
The Switchfoot song that was later covered by Mandy Moore for the movie A Walk to Remember, is called “Only Hope.”

The message this weekend was AWESOME. I know different people hear different things from the same message. I know today That You or should I say God was speaking directly to me. Thank you for delivering it.There was no one else there but me and God. I loved how you spoke of your son asking a question to God and receiving the answer so clearly and easily. I long for that. A child is so innocent and open, there is no bad in the way. As an adult I wonder how I or anyone gets past the bad in life to hear so clearly from God. Can one get there? Can we push aside life and approach as an innocent open child and receive those answers clearly and easily? A friend said to me today that yes I worship but there is always a “BUT” attached. I must admit she is right. How do you get rid of the “BUT”?

Debating on the Mandy Moore version versus the original Switchfoot version. The Switchfoot one has just some naked honest vocals but Mandy Moore has that haunting piano that is great for rainy introspective days. Its a real toss-up.

Charlie…
Totally grooved on your message last weekend… thanks. What is the name of the book that explains the Jewish traditions you mentioned?

Bonnie — great question…I think that’s the faith struggle…worshipping & having faith without “buts”
Jason — agreed. I like the raw intensity of Switchfoot and being more of a “rock” guy it hurts me to admit that I really do like the Mandy Moore version as well.
Bill — it’s called Mudhouse Sabbath and it’s by Lauren Winner. Short read, but I’m really digging it.

ok… I have to admit… I prefer the Mandy Moore version… Her vocals are amazing… It is sorta wierd… she can clearly sing… but all of her albums are not great…
