Message Rewind

I spoke this past weekend at Northwoods in our continuing series: Real Heroes.  My topic was “unassuming heroes” and I was talking about Deborah (Judges 4) — I used the title “backstage heroes.”

So, let me flip to the other side and talk about the spotlight for a second.  I think it’s possible (and healthy) — if you’re a person who is often in the spotlight, to figure out how to have a backstage attitude.

Some of my personal strategies for developing a backstage attitude are (I’m far from perfect, but these are some of the things that I try to do):

  • to make sure that I get my hands dirty as much as possible — intentionally try to do things that other people won’t notice
  • to — as much as possible — ignore my press.  Someone very wise once told me, that you’re never as good as people say, and you’re never as bad as people say either.”
  • refuse to self-promote

  1. Charlie – I was not there when you spoke, but if I am gathering what I think I am….

One thing to do when you are in the spot light is get give it back to God, if paid a big complimant, give it back to God, thank him for what He has given you

just a thought, its helped me to stay humble when i strugle with the pride that may come in the spot light

  3. Interesting thought. I had spoken to you a few weeks ago when you led worship. I meant it when I said you were AWESOME. What it did for me and I hope for others is it helped me connect with God . Something I very much needed. So to me you were the messenger. I would think It’s ok To be proud and in the spotlight knowing your delivering Gods message to ears that need to hear it.
Thank you for listening to God and delivering the message. And thank you to God for giving you the the message and the gift :)
