Awwww…cute
Sorry, no posts
The harddrive on my laptop crashed Tuesday afternoon…sorry for the lack of posts…I’ll get up-to-speed in the next couple of days or so.
Weekend Highlights
This weekend was pretty full…some highlights…
On Friday night, I finished building the swing set that was given to the boys for their birthday (thanks to grandpa & grandma).

On Saturday I mowed the yard for the first time (about two weeks too late…the mower kept getting bogged down in the long grass!) I love the smell of a fresh-cut lawn!
On Sunday, the boys and I got to go on a plane ride in a 1969 Cessna Skylane…that was COOL! (the one we flew in was green, though)

On Sunday night I spoke to our high school students about heaven. (I’ll write more about this in a separate post! It was one of the harest preps I’ve had in a long time…)
They think this is us!
I don’t know that I’ve ever felt so angry as I’ve written a post as I feel write now writing this. Tim sent me this link to a CBS News article. In it, Westboro Baptist Church (link intentionally not provided) announced plans to picket memorial services and funeral services at Virginia Tech.
Shirley Phelps-Roger had the audacity to say this of Cho Seung-Hi, who killed 32 people on Monday before killing himself, “He is in hell, but he was also fulfilling the word of God.”
Like it or not, people who aren’t Christians, read this kind of junk and even if they don’t believe it about us, they at least look at us with suspicion. So, fight back, link to this post, tell everyone you know that THIS ISN’T WHAT JESUS WAS ABOUT, THIS ISN’T WHAT CHRISTIANITY STANDS FOR!
I have such righteous indignation right now that everytime something tragic happens, this group worms their way into the spotlight with their message of hate.

Music that Lasts
There are albums that come and go…you listen to them for a while and then you stop. Then there are bands/albums that you just keep coming back to over and over again. This one is one that I come back to over and over again.

It definately has a 90’s feel to it. It’s probably the most agressive of Toad the Wet Sprocket’s albums, that’s probably why it’s my personal favorite of all their albums.
You’re gonna like this!
Found this on Dave’s Digg RSS feed:
Biblical Curse Generator – you wanna give it to your enemies “Old Testament” style? Click on “take that” to have a curse generated straight from the OT.

Yes, I actually said it!
In the “making fun of myself” catagory…
This weekend I was doing announcements, and in our second Sunday service, I was talking about our New Community series called Ignite!, where we will be talking about how to cultivate and deepen one’s personal time with God.
I was trying to say that we’re doing this series to help you “create a passionate discourse with God,” or “create a passionate inner-dialogue with God,” instead I said this…
“we hope this series helps you create passionate intercourse with God.”
Yes, I know that it’s blasphemous and rude.
I am duly shamed and embarassed.
What would Jesus do?
Someone forwarded me this great article on CNN’s website.

Unspeakable Evil
Of course, events at Virginia Tech yesterday leave many scratching their heads asking “how does something like this happen,” as well they should.
There’s been a book sitting in my “on-deck” pile of books to read for quite some time that I’ll probably take home and start reading again in earnest. It’s by Os Guiness (yes, he’s related to those Guinesses) and is called Unspeakable: Facing up to Evil in an Age of Genocide and Terror.
Here is just a thought that is appropriate today…
“Far from being essentially good…our human nature is blatantly contradictory. It’s nobility and evident goodness are offset by an equally evident propensity to plan and carry out acts of the most malevolent and destructive kind — whether brazenly monstrous, devilishly subtle, or yawningly routine. Quite apart from the gruesome record of the last century, the evidence of history and our own heart is clear: we are capable of the very best and the very worst.”
