Blah, blah, blah

While I was working out at the gym I was reading a book (shocking, I know).  It was a book about a NEW! and EXCITING! way to do church better and if you just do this thing, YOUR CHURCH WILL BE AS AWESOME AS OURS!

Maybe I’m just feeling sassy today (I’m confident in my manhood…I can be sassy), but I’m just growing tired of all the chatter…innovative this, 7 steps to that, irrefutable these and everything will be better.

Maybe someday I’ll eat crow when I think of something NEW! and EXCITING! with the promise to REVOLUTIONIZE! your church.  But today, I’m just overwhelmed with how to be Purpose-Driven (TM), seeker-sensitive, worship evangelizing, big idea, postmodern, emergent, innovative, strategic, missional, evangelistic, relevant, hip, techno-savvy, practical, come-as-you-are….ARGHHHH!

  1. I feel this way often. It’s another reason I don’t like going into Christian book stores. Just seeing all the titles overwhelms me!

  2. You read while you workout, too? I read books, do homework, and write emails while I work out. Burning calories isn’t an excuse for burning daylight, but that’s just my opinion.

  3. i agree, all this hype and fanfair is basically a newer version of “steps to christianity” i grew up with. then it was “read your Bible for 30 minutes and read this devotional the church gives you and you are a good Christian!” now it is “read my book and implement my 7 steps and you are going to be changed forever”.
at least back then, people were actually opening thier Bibles.
