Odds & Ends to Close Out 2004

without comments

On Christmas Day my Great Uncle and Aunt died in a head-on car collision just north of Bloomington. I wasn’t particularly close to them, but I’ll still be attending the funeral to mourn with my family.

We had Christmas — I wish it weren’t so busy! I feel like I hurry from place to place for 3 or 4 days and never really get time to slow down!

New Years is a couple days away! Jennifer and I are pumped to be heading out to Denver. A friend has tickets for the Broncos-Colts football game (if the Broncos win they’re in the playoffs, if they lose they’re probably not). We’ll be tailgating and then hanging out at the game!

Hope everyone is well! When I get back, I’ll spend some time blogging about a great book I just finished reading the other night at 2 am!

PS — Thanks for those that listend to me on WMBD last week! It was a pretty cool experience!

Friday On-Air on WMBD

with one comment

Because I have the inability to say “No,” I will be on WMBD (AM 1470) Radio on Friday Morning. I just got off the phone with Doc Watson of the “3-D Morning Show” and he wants to do something on the historical facts on Jesus’ birth. So for the next couple of days, I’ll be hunkered down in my office studying (feels like an oral final exam!)

Christmas Letter: Returned

with 4 comments

Yesterday, I received in the mail a returned Christmas letter. It was from the ex-wife of a childhood friend who was writing to let me know that they were no longer married and he therefore no longer lived at the address. She also pulled back the curtains on their relationship…Apparently he had gotten two different women pregnant and also beat her up some before the divorce.

I guess what scares me is that this guy grew up in a pastor’s home. How do you grow up one way and then end up in a totally different place? It makes me scared for my own kids. How do I raise them in such a way that I transmit my values to them in a way that isn’t overbearing? I know for this guy conservative Christianity was jammed down his throat — maybe that’s the problem. But to let a child simply choose their own path seems a bit too simplistic!

I have a sneaking suspicion that this parenting thing isn’t as easy as I thought it was before I had my own kids!

My First Post

I’m so pumped! For quite some time I’ve wanted to set up a blog site, but due to life circumstances, it hasn’t worked out. So anyway — today I was just browsing while talking on the phone and I found this free site through Google. I don’t know if anyone will ever read this, but I now have a place to rant and at least pretend that somebody is out there listening to my rants!
